Creating a New Project
How every new project starts in ProjectLibre Cloud: build one blank, generate one with AI, or import a desktop file.
Every new schedule in ProjectLibre Cloud starts from the enterprise Portfolio. Click toolbar + Add and the New Project modal offers three modes: Blank (build it yourself), AI (generate from a description), and Import (bring a desktop file). All three land in a real, editable Project → Gantt — then you refine links, baselines, assignments, and teammates like any other plan.

Three ways at a glance
From Portfolio, click + Add. The New Project modal shows the triad Blank | AI | Import. Pick the mode that matches how you want to start — then name (or leave blank where allowed), optionally check Open the project on completion, and confirm.

| Mode | When to use | Primary action |
|---|---|---|
| Blank | Greenfield plan; learn the Gantt spreadsheet | Add Project → set Start on Portfolio row → open → tasks, links, indent, baseline, assign |
| AI | Fast first draft from a natural-language description; iterate with Copilot | Generate Project — or chat in sidebar Copilot (Ask Libre…) |
| Import | You already have MSP / Primavera / ProjectLibre Desktop (or related) schedules | Choose file → map/create/leave resources → Import — full chapter: Importing Desktop Projects |
Blank — create manually
The Blank path is the best way to learn how ProjectLibre Cloud schedules behave. Start with New Project and build the schedule directly in the Gantt.
Create the blank project
-
Open sidebar Portfolio.
-
Click toolbar + Add → New Project.
-
Select mode Blank. Enter a Project name (demo: New project).
-
Optionally check Open the project on completion. The demo leaves it unchecked so you can set Start on the Portfolio row first.
-
Click Add Project.

New Portfolio rows default Start to today and Duration to 0d. Edit Start with the calendar picker (demo: 8/5/2026), then open the project with the eye / Indicator control on the row.

Enter tasks, durations, and a milestone
In Project → Gantt, type into Name (demo: Summary, then tasks 1…5) and set Duration (demo: 10d / 10d / 5d / 10d / 0d). A 0d task renders as a milestone diamond. Use zoom (− / +) to change the timescale (3-day, daily, hourly).

Link tasks (Finish-to-Start by default)
Drag from one Gantt bar to another to create a default Finish-to-Start link. You can also type predecessor IDs in the Predecessors column. Click an existing dependency line to open Edit Task Dependency — change Dependency Type (for example Start to Start (SS)), set Lag (Days), then Save Changes.

Indent → summary / WBS
Multi-select child tasks and use toolbar Indent to nest them under a summary. Expand/collapse with the triangle; duration and dates roll up. Open Project → WBS for the hierarchical boxes. Red bars on the Gantt are critical-path tasks.

Save Baseline
Open Save Baseline: choose the baseline slot, optionally limit to selected tasks (unchecked Entire project), then Save Baseline. Later schedule edits leave the baseline visually anchored for comparison.

Must Finish On constraint
Select a task → toolbar Edit → Scheduling tab → set Constraint Type to Must Finish On and pick a date. The task moves; a constraint indicator appears. For details, see Scheduling — Constraints.

Assignment % + Peak Units
Select a task → Assign (people) control → Assign dialog: set Assignment % (0% / slider / 100%), then Save. Overlapping assignments surface in the bottom Peak Units histogram (Overallocated / Fully Allocated / Allocated). From there you can open Level resources (Preview / Level) — full procedure in Resource Leveling; pool views in Resources.

Invite teammates (setup wizard)
After the project exists, open your avatar → Options → Run setup wizard. The Invite your teammates step collects name, email, and Role, and can email sign-in credentials when setup finishes.

AI / Copilot
More Copilot workflows: sidebar create/edit, guided tours, roles, and scheduling features are covered under Copilot. This subsection focuses on the + Add → AI → Generate Project workflow and the related Copilot create-project examples.
Path A — Portfolio + Add → AI → Generate Project
-
Portfolio → + Add → New Project → mode AI.
-
Project name is optional — helper: Leave blank to name it from your prompt.
-
Fill Project Description (demo CRM prompt: create a project for implementing a new CRM system, return 20 tasks, link tasks).
-
Optionally check Open the project on completion.
-
Click Generate Project (spinner while generating).
-
Land in Project → Gantt with generated tasks, durations, and FS links (demo: ~20 CRM tasks).

Path B — Sidebar Copilot (create or edit)
Open sidebar Copilot. Helper copy invites prompts such as create / link / set % complete. Type in Ask Libre…, click Send, and watch status Thinking… / Working…. Action chips (for example Added task ‘…’) confirm what changed.

Iterate — multilingual edits auto-apply

Import an existing project
The third New Project mode is Import: choose a desktop file, decide how to handle resources (Create resources / Map resources / Leave unassigned), then Import. That full workflow — formats, mapping, pool prerequisites, and post-import Peak Units — lives in Importing Desktop Projects. This create chapter only points you there so the triad stays complete without duplicating the chapter.
