Importing Desktop Projects
How to import a Microsoft Project, Primavera, or ProjectLibre Desktop schedule into ProjectLibre Cloud, including resource matching.
Import is the fastest way to move an existing Microsoft Project, Primavera, ProjectLibre Desktop, or related schedule into ProjectLibre Cloud — preserving structure, links, and (when you map or create resources) assignments — then unlock collaboration, AI, and advanced cloud scheduling. This chapter provides the complete import workflow.

How to Import a Project
Primary path (current UI) — Portfolio + Add → New Project → Import
-
Go to sidebar Portfolio.
-
Click toolbar + Add → modal New Project.
-
Select mode Import (alongside Blank / AI).
-
Project name is optional — helper: Leave blank to keep the imported file’s name.
-
Click Choose file and pick the schedule (demo:
Engineering project.xml; picker may also show.mpp/.pod.xml). -
Wait for Parsing
<filename>…; footer Import stays disabled until ready. Cancel remains available. -
Configure resource mapping (next section), optionally check Open the project on completion, then click Import.
-
Land in Project → Gantt (demo title Engineering project when name left blank).

Managing Imported Resource Assignments
After parse, the modal asks what to do with resources found in the file. Import workflow offers three strategies:
-
Create resources — each imported resource becomes a new project resource (with its calendar); override any row in the table.
-
Map resources — match Imported resource → Company resource using Matching method: Auto (closest by name and email; unmatched can import as new) or Field.
-
Leave unassigned — bring the schedule without assignments; staff later in Cloud.
The mapping table shows per-row Company resource dropdowns (options include: Import new resource, Leave unassigned, plus pool names).

Matching fields & pool prerequisite
When you choose Map resources, use matching fields such as Name and Email to pair imported resources with people already in the company Resources pool. Confirm spelling and email values against the resource pool before importing.

After import — baselines, assignments, Peak Units
baselines and resource assignments come along when mapping/creating. Zoom the Gantt, select tasks, and read the bottom Peak Units histogram for overallocation. Hover an overallocated zone for the “level this zone” tooltip, then open Level resources (Preview / Level). Deep leveling procedure: Resource Leveling — the import videos show Preview, not a full level run.
